PRETEST -
A preliminary test administered to determine a student's baseline knowledge or preparedness for an educational experience or course of study. A test taken for practice.

A main goal or objective of our program is for you to be able to learn many new skills and concepts throughout the year, and that you will have a high level of growth in your knowledge and skills related to Graphic Design. If you show a high level of growth between the pretest and the final test, then we know that our time here was worthwhile and a success.

Today you will take a New York State required pretest in the subject area of Graphic Design including Career Skills, Color Theory, Computer Literacy, Design and Layout, and Typography. These are subjects that are in our course of study this semester. This test has been created by a group of schools across the state.

The purpose of this test is to measure how much you currently already know about these subjects as we begin the study. At the end of the year, you wil take another very similar test (your final), which when compared to this pretest will provide a measurement of the amount of growth in your knowledge in this particular area.

INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Don't be concerned if you do not understand the content on this test. We have not yet studied these areas and no one is expected to already have this knowledge.

  • The test will NOT count as a grade for your report card, nor count against you in any way. It is only used to measure growth during the course.

  • When taking the test, if you are NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE of your answer, DO NOT GUESS, even if its a choice between two items.
Choose letter ==E== on the answer sheet for "I DONT KNOW"

    • Since this is a multiple choice test, we do not want to skew the results by randomly guessing the correct answer when in fact you do not know the answer.

  • Fill in the "bubble sheet" with a #2 pencil. PRINT NEATLY the information in the title bar on the right.

  • Your answer choices should be marked with a solid horizontal line as shown below.

  • When you are done, please raise your hand and the instructor will collect your test papers. You may work quietly at your computer until everyone finishes.
